China’s second-largest e-commerce company JD.Com posted record sales during its mid-year shopping festival promoted as 6.18 sales in reference to June 18 as over 360 million online shoppers took part in the shopping frenzy.
The company received online orders worth CNY159.2 billion (USD24.5 billion) during 18 days of promotional sales from June 1 to June 19, it said today.
With the widespread use of JD Logistics’ automation equipment, over 90 percent of self-operated orders achieved either same-day or overnight delivery, reported online portal QQ.com operated by Tencent Holdings.
JD puts logistics at the forefront of its e-commerce services, and is known for its work with unmanned delivery drones and other innovative practices. This year it purchased a 10-percent stake in warehouse partner China Logistics Property Holdings for USD115 million, becoming its third-largest shareholder as it looks to have a say in the development of CLP’s delivery network.
In a deal signed in June with CTS International Logistics, JD will provide technical services like warehouse planning and management and data administration, while CTS will use Jingbangda’s cloud warehouse service last-mile distribution networks, it added.
