BEUMER Group: Pouch System

BEUMER Group – a leading global supplier of automated material handling systems – has launched its own new BG Pouch System® in response to rapid growth of interest from omnichannel and D2C operators.

At INTRALOGISTICA ITALIA, BEUMER Group will also present their loop sortation technology as well as their innovative BG Line.

The introduction of active slat-belt technology allows the BEUMER’s BG Line Sorter to overcome the limitations in the handling capability of traditional line sorters by providing an alternative to traditional sliding-shoe line sorters. This industry-first solution combines the broad handling mix of a cross-belt sorter within the compact footprint of a line sorter.

We see a huge potential for a modern version sortation technology, especially for our customers looking to refine their fulfilment and distribution chain by optimising processes to have faster goods-to-consumer cycles and a much, much lower need for operators touching the items

Calzedonia’s choice

With the increase in e-commerce, Calzedonia Group has seen a steady rise in its Direct to Consumer (DTC) business and needed to optimise its despatch operations to account for this growth while increasing the level of efficiency and customer service.
The site, originally designed for retail distribution only, had already been changed to an omnichannel warehouse. The challenge was to deal with the added pressures that rising e-commerce volumes place on an omnichannel system by adopting a flexible, automated system that would allow easy expansion of capacity.

The Group chose a system based on BEUMER Group’s BG Pouch System technology;
a solution to be designed to fit into the current premises, expanding the existing warehouse’s fulfilment capacity and returns handling, without needing to extend the footprint of the physical warehouse.
The BG Pouch System design allows an approx. 30% smaller footprint than conventional pouch technology systems and can be mounted in the ceiling, saving precious floor space.
Additionally, the modular BG Pouch System design can also be scaled up quickly and easily as needed. Using the pouch technology, Calzedonia Group has transformed its warehouse, optimising it for omnichannel operations while continuing to achieve high efficiency in handling and fulfilment.

BEUMER Group solutions are on display at INTRALOGISTICA ITALIA, booth C45 / Pad. 10 from 3 to 6 May 2022.
